BANGALORE: Soon flight information announcements, including departure and arrival, in Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) will be displayed in Kannada language also. Besides, Kannada newspapers will also be available at the airport.
As a measure to implement state language at all levels, all display and sign boards inside and on the premises of BIA are expected to carry information in Kannada, in addition to English by the year-end.
Kannada Development Authority (KDA) chairperson, Mukhyamantri Chandru told reporters on Friday that he has urged BIA management to have Kannada name boards within three months. "The management readily accepted the request," he said. KDA has statutory status for effective implementation of projects and programmes relating to development of Kannada and monitor and evaluate the implementation of Kannada as official language.
He said he had also urged the management of the airport to celebrate Karnataka Rajyostava Day (state foundation day) on November one every year on a grand scale. "Jurisdictional tahsildar has been directed to monitor the implementation of Kannada promotion in BIA," Chandru added.
The chairperson also said he has urged Toyota Kirloskar Motor plant at Bidadi on outskirs of Bangalore, to have display boards in Kannada as well within three months.
