Failed students must register for SSLC exam-2, says Karnataka minister

Bengaluru: Karnataka govt has made it mandatory for students who failed in SSLC examination-1 to register for the upcoming examination-2.Issuing instructions to deputy directors across the state, school education and literacy minister S Madhu Bangarappa Monday said steps must be taken to ensure 45,415 students who did not clear the first exam are registered and prepared for the second attempt.The directive follows the announcement of SSLC results last week, which recorded a historic pass percentage for freshers — nearly 94.2%. Despite the achievement, a significant number of students were unable to pass. Of them, 20,691 failed in one subject, 10,509 in two, 6,103 in three, 3,799 in four, 2,552 in five and 1,716 students failed in all subjects.Bangarappa said no student should discontinue education due to exam setbacks. To ease the burden on families, govt will allow students to appear for the exam free of cost as was done last year, he added. Those wanting to improve their scores will also be allowed to take the exam.CET awareness programme Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) will hold CET seat-allotment discussion (manthana) to create awareness about option entry and counselling in engineering as well as in medical colleges. The programme will be organised in the second week of May.Last year, there were several instances of students making mistakes during option entry. Accordingly, a day's discussion on counselling was conducted in govt and aided engineering colleges, which received a good response. To organise this year's programme more systematically over two days, a preparatory workshop on counselling has been scheduled in Bengaluru on May 9. KEA has requested the presence of three lecturers from each college.
