'I need a drink, open door': Drunk pub manager attacks cops, nabbed in Bengaluru
BENGALURU: A drunk pub manager, who created a ruckus outside a closed bar on Neeladri Road in Electronics City around 2am on April 8 and assaulted an assistant sub-inspector and a constable, has been arrested.
The accused is identified as Saikumar Reddy, 26, a resident of Gururaghavendra Nagar in JP Nagar 7th Phase. The complaint was filed by ASI Siddarama KS, 45. Siddarama and Mutturaj, 30, were on night patrol duty. Around 1.45am, while patrolling near Neeladri Road, they received a message about a man creating a ruckus outside SLR bar near PCR junction. They rushed to the spot and, when they approached him, found he was intoxicated and repeatedly banging on the shutter of the closed bar. He was shouting abuse and demanding alcohol. He was also abusing the people gathered and passersby.
Reddy yelled at the bar staff, "I need a drink, open the door." He threatened to damage the shutter with a stone. The bar cashier, Ramesh, stepped out and was attempting to calm Reddy, but the situation escalated as the accused began arguing aggressively, claiming he was a "manager of a pub" and demanding liquor.
When Siddarama intervened and told him the bar was closed, the man allegedly turned violent. He abused the officer and constable, grabbed the ASI's uniform, punched him in the face, and tore the shirt in the scuffle.
Mutturaj rushed to assist the ASI, but was allegedly manhandled. Reddy tried to escape, pushing the officers and looking for objects to throw at them, but was taken to the police station in a Hoysala vehicle. During transit, he allegedly continued to shout and threaten the officers, claiming to be a wealthy businessman capable of getting them dismissed from service.
Siddarama, who sustained injuries, was treated at a private hospital. A case was registered against Reddy under Sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He has been remanded in judicial custody, said police.
