Bengaluru: An 18-year-old youth was allegedly brutally assaulted following a road rage incident in Kacharakanahalli on May 24, leaving him with a fractured left shoulder, abdominal injuries, and other wounds. The injured, Pradish K from Pillanna Garden, works as a delivery agent. He was on his way to work on a scooter after refuelling at a petrol station around 7.20am when a speeding Maruti Suzuki allegedly hit his vehicle from behind. The impact threw Pradish off the scooter, leaving him semi-conscious. He alleged that instead of helping him, the occupants of the car, including two women and three men, abused him and blamed him for the damage caused to their vehicle.A woman is said to have repeatedly hit him with slippers, while the others punched and kicked him. A man brought a sharp iron object from the car, which Pradish believed to be a knife, and allegedly stabbed him in the abdomen, causing severe bleeding. The group allegedly continued assaulting him, dragged him on the road, fractured his shoulder, and repeatedly kicked him despite his worsening condition.Another delivery agent, who was passing by, alerted his family. Pradish said the group even prevented bystanders, family members, and friends from shifting him to the hospital, claiming that repairing their damaged car was more important.A woman in her mid-40s, after reaching the spot, allegedly threatened people and declared that Pradish would not be allowed to leave until their car was repaired or money was paid for the damage.Pradish’s brother said the woman introduced herself as a traffic police officer. He alleged that she boasted about having political influence, money power, and connections within the police department, claiming that no legal action could touch them. The situation is said to have calmed down only after one of Pradish’s friends handed over his mobile phone as assurance that they would return; the victim was then rushed to Dr BR Ambedkar Hospital for treatment. Pradish said the group damaged his scooter and later took away the vehicle without his permission before leaving the spot. He has since been discharged from the hospital and is recovering. An officer said there is a counter-complaint against Pradish and others. The group has alleged that after the accident, Pradish was asked to pay for the damage. They went to a nearby garage to check the repair charges, when his family members and friends gathered there. According to them, people gathered abused the women filthily and threatened them. Both cases have been registered. CCTV footage from the spot is being checked to verify the allegations made by both parties. “We are yet to investigate whether the injuries sustained by Pradish were due to the accident or assault,” the officer added.
