Culture policy will curb moral policing

BENGALURU: The Karnataka government is set to implement a culture policy that'll place curbs on moral policing, and unilateral decisions on

banning literature

and books will not be possible.

Kannada and culture department director Vishu Kumar said the policy will be notified in 3-4 days. The government accepted 37 of the 45 recommendations of a sixmember committee headed by litterateur Baraguru Ramachandrappa.

“Two important features of the draft policy are that the government won't tolerate moral policing in any form and books won't be banned unilaterally , even if they outrage a section of society,“ said Ramachandrappa.

The new policy will promote secularism and protect the state's cultural heritage.
