Founder of
Comic Con India Jatin Varma, 28, is remarkably serene despite the chaos around him. He took some time off to speak to STOI.
* So how is the response this year? On Day One, we've had about 20,000 people. In Delhi, over three days, we had about 50,000 people. Last year, we had about 30,000-35,000 in Bangalore, but they were more well versed with pop culture.
Delhi had a lot of curious people, but in Bangalore we have more dedicated followers and the city is surpassing everyone. People here are well informed — if we ask them stuff, they know about it.
* How much sales are likely this year? I honestly don't know. Last year, at Bangalore, we made about Rs 45 lakh over the weekend and this February in Delhi we made Rs 3 crore. I'm hoping it exceeds that.
* What's the future of Comic Con Bangalore? We wanted to bring Comic Con to Bangalore and we did it as Comic Con Express 9 months ago. We wanted to make it a summer event and after last year's turnout, we wanted to make it annual as well and it has happened so I'm happy about that. We wanted to make this bigger and in just 9 months, we have been able to bring in international companies and artists and products.
I want to push this event even further next year. We want more international artists and provide better exposure for independent artists and publishers both international and Indian. Also, we want to bring in acclaimed artists. Just looking at the people pouring in, we have to find a larger place.
