BENGALURU: The Congress on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on the BJP government through ‘40% Sarkara, BJP Andre Brashtachara’ (40% government, BJP means corruption) campaign. The party floated a toll-free helpline—8447704040—and a website—www.40percentsarkara.com—for people to register complaints against the government.
KPCC president DK Shivakumar said: “We’ll keep the identity of the complainants secret but fight on their behalf by taking up complaints with the departments concerned and also highlighting them in the public.”
Opposition leader Siddaramaiah alleged that people are being harassed for commission but are afraid to file complaints. “So, we‘re asking the people to share information with us and we’ll fight for their cause,” he said. The party also released songs and short videos highlighting the alleged 40% commission charge against the government by the contractors’ association, the suicide of a contractor and other issues.
“In none of these cases, the government has taken action. Instead, the complainants are being harassed and threatened,” Siddaramaiah claimed.
Alleging that the BJP has turned Karnataka into the corruption capital of the country, Shivakumar said the Congress will expose all wrongdoings.
Reacting to power minister V Sunil Kumar’s allegations of irregularities in the auction for setting up solar power generation units during the Congress tenure, Shivakumar dared the government to order an inquiry. “What are you waiting for? If I have committed anything wrong, let them file a case against me. I’m confident that I haven’t done anything wrong,” he said.
