BENGALURU: Congress filed a complaint with the Election Commission on Monday, accusing BJP MLA and former minister Ramesh Jarkiholi of concealing details of his business in affidavits he filed for the 2019 byelections.

In the complaint, M Lak shmana Ramesh, KPCC spokesperson, said Jarkiholi concealed details of the role of members of his family in Soubhagya Lakshmi Sugars Ltd located in Gokak, Belagavi.

“The sugar factory, in which Ramesh’s family members are directors, raised a loan of Rs 578 crore,” the complainant states. “Besides, they owe Rs 50 crore to farmers and Rs 150 crore to the income tax department. But in his affidavit, Ramesh has not disclosed this information. ”

By filing a false and in complete affidavit, Jarkiholi has infringed Section 125A of the Representation of Peoples Act, the complainant said. “The Election Commission must transfer this false affidavit case to the Central Board of Direct Taxes or the Enforcement Directorate for an investigation,” it read.
