MYSORE: The best way to pay tribute to a musician who has dedicated his entire life to the cause of music is by holding a concert in his name. That is what Ganabharathi, a popular musical institution did. It organised a concert in memory of Swarana Murthy V N Rao, the grandson of the famous Veena Sheshanna.

this year however, the music programme was marked by an exclusive competition on the compositions of veena sheshanna (both vocal and instrumental), along with a laudable concert by karnataka kalushri neela ramgopal. in the programme, vidushi neela sang a rare kritik including dixistari nanda gopuram in yamuna kalyani, maha vidyanatha shivanna's 72 melakartha krithi first chakra pranatharithihara. the pallavi she chose was in misra made aditaala in raga kambhodi. the madhyamakala only made the programme more attractive. finally, she ended the show by presenting a beautiful tillana in darbari kanna by lalgudi jayaraman. the deputy director of kannada and culture department mysore m g sadanandayya distributed the prizes to the winners.
