CCTV footage reveals 77-yr-old died following assault

BENGALURU: The death of a retired laboratory assistant from Bowring hospital has taken a new turn. What was thought of as a fatal fall appears to be a murder now, going by CCTV footage collected from the place of the incident.

Seventy-seven-year old Krishnappa was initially thought to have suffered an accidental fall at Kempanna Brothers Layout near Palace Guttahalli.

However, CCTV grabs have now revealed a motorcycle-borne individual intercepting Krishnappa in front of a bank, initiating a confrontation with him that escalated into a violent assault. One more person joined the assailant, and together they assaulted Krishnappa before making their escape. The incident occurred around 8.30pm on November 15. Krishnappa, a resident fo Muneshwara Block of Palace Guttahalli, succumbed to the injuries on November 16.

Krishnappa's son Satish Kumar KL filed a police complaint after they checked CCTV footage prompted by the severity of injuries the victim had sustained. A senior officer said Krishnappa had taken his blood pressure tablets but had run out of diabetes tablets and was on his way to a medical store on his scooter.

Road rage angle

The officer said that people who saw Krishnappa lying almost unconscious alerted police, who rushed to the spot by 9pm. The cops then called Krishnappa's son-in-law Manjunath after getting his number from the former's phone.

Police who suspect road rage have formed a special team to apprehend the assailants. Krishnappa's family refused to comment, citing ongoing investigation.
