BANGALORE: Burglars had a field day over the extended weekend with seven house break-ins and thefts reported across the city since Sunday. In six cases, residents were out of town. Gold ornaments and silver articles allegedly worth Rs 18 lakh were looted from a businessman's house in BTM Layout. Ashwath Lal, 46, a resident of 10{+t}{+h} Main, 8{+t}{+h} Cross, BTM Layout, said he and his family went to Goa on a vacation on Thursday.
The family returned on Sunday night to find the bedroom ransacked and the gold and silver items missing.
Police said burglars had cut open the windows at the rear, possibly on Saturday night.
Sampigehalli: Burglars stole gold ornaments, silver articles and cash from the house of a general manager with Mysore Sales International Ltd at SK Nagar, Sampigehalli, near Jakkur.
Subramani and his family had gone out of town on Friday to distribute invitations for his daughter's wedding. On returning home on Sunday evening, they found that 3kg of silver articles, 45gm of gold, Rs 30,000 cash and other electronic equipment had been stolen.
Kodigehalli: Burglars broke into a house on 24{+t}{+h} Cross, Sahakarnagar when Meera Seshadri and her family had gone to Chennai. On Sunday morning, Kodigehalli police got a call from her neighbor, Rathna, that the door of Meera's house was broken. Police said details of the missing items will be known only after the Meera's family returns.
Vijaynagar: Burglars broke into a house on 4th Cross, Bapujinagar on Sunday night and stole valuables worth about Rs 2 lakh. While her husband, Rajesh, had gone out of town on work, Sheela went to visit a relative, Ramya, in Nandini Layout on Sunday morning. Burglars broke into the house and made away with valuables.
HSR Layout: Small-time businessman Kolandavelu, a resident of III Sector, 18th Main, HSR Layout, and his family returned home on Monday morning after a weekend trip to Tamil Nadu to find gold ornaments of about 150gms and other valuables stolen.
Hennur: Software engineer Asgar Kalam returned home from a trip to his home town in Kerala to find Rs 50,000 cash and Rs 2 lakh worth gold ornaments stolen by burglars from his Nanjappa Gardens home near Hennur.
High Grounds: Burglars entered a house on Yamuna Bai Road, Madhava Nagar, High Grounds, through a skylight and made away with Rs 10000 cash and other valuables. House owner Sampath and his family had gone to Tamil Nadu for two days.
