BENGALURU: The crisis at the

Bangalore Turf Club

deepened on Wednesday with a majority of its

members favouring

legal action against the Karnataka government, which hasn’t renewed the

racing licence

since August 31. At a special general meeting, 141(excluding 121proxies) of the total 338 members voted against the three resolutions.

An increase in membership by 50; give all 50 slots to government nominees; and fix membership fee at Rs 5 lakh apiece. Instead, club members decided to take the issue to court in a bid to get racing back on track. The votes were counted by a show of hands. Only three members voted in favour of the resolution. “The members have given us a mandate to proceed legally, hoping for an interim relief from the court,” said BTC chairman

Hairmohan Naidu.

Racing came to a halt after the government decided not to renew the licence until the government’s demand for increase in membership was met. Uncertainty engulfed the start of the winter racing season — which was to begin in the first week of November- as

legal experts

said court process could take up to three months, if not longer.
