BANGALORE: As chief minister, every time he would step out of home or office, the traffic would come to a halt to give way to his convoy. On Wednesday, to seek exemption from court appearance, he said he would only be inconveniencing the public by his visits as he has 'Z' category security.
Yeddyurappa's counsel Ravi B Naik told the special Lokayukta court here that his client has 'Z'-category security, and whenever he travels, traffic has to be halted to allow his convoy.

"It causes inconvenience to the people. Also, in the court, due to security, judicial proceedings are being disrupted. Moreover, his presence is not required now," Naik argued.
But judge N K Sudhindra Rao declined to pass an order for exemption. He said the accused could file an application on the days he is scheduled to appear. Yeddyurappa had abstained from court on August 27 citing health reasons. When he attended the court on August 29, he sought exemption from future appearances again on health grounds. On Wednesday, Yeddyurappa, along with his sons, B Y Raghavendra and B Y Vijayendra, son-in-law R N Sohan Kumar and lieutenants Ess Enn Krisnaiah Setty and D Hemachandra Sagar, MLAs, arrived 15 minutes before the 3pm hearing.

The complainants have accused Yeddyurappa of abusing power when he was the CM to make pecuniary benefits to his family-run firms and lieutenants. The court has taken cognizance of the complaint and issued summons to them, which is why the former CM and others are appearing before the court. On August 29, all the accused have filed a plea seeking bail. The bail petitions are yet to be decided by the court. Before hearing the pleas, the court would decide on who should represent the complainant. Now, C H Hanumantharaya is representing the complainant.
After hearing the arguments and counter-arguments, the court would decide whether a special public prosecutor should argue the case or Hanumantharaya could be allowed to represent the complainant. The hearing on the issue has been scheduled for September 13. ANOTHER ONE In another complaint, advocate Sirajin Basha has alleged that Yeddyurappa had denotified BDA lands 2.5 acres in Arakere village, 1.7 acres in Devarachikkanahalli in Bangalore South taluk and 1.21 acres in Gedalahalli village in Bangalore East taluk by abusing power, violating rules and for pecuniary benefits. The court adjourned the hearing to September 13.
