CHITRADURGA: Two primary school students who bunked school were stripped and tied to a tree by their angry parents on the outskirts of Chitradurga on Monday morning.
Darshan, 7, and Ahmed Rian, 8, are studying in class I and II respectively at Vishvabharati primary school in Kavadigarahatti, 3 km from here.
According to villagers, Darshan’s grandmother, Gangamma, was angry her grandson didn’t attend the school, and subjected him to harsh punishment.

Rian’s mother, Bibi Aiyasha, followed suit. The guardians reportedly poured buckets of sugary water on the children that attracted an army of ants.
A teacher from another school who learnt about the incident got the children freed. The children claimed that a friend called them over for a game and they skipped school. The guardians said since their village is very close to the busy National Highway 13, they got worried when their children didn’t go to school. Gangamma said the punishment was more a deterrent.
Chitradurga’s deputy director of public instruction H Manjunath said he learnt about the episode when TOI sought his reaction. He will visit the village on Tuesday and speak to the guardians. He said the education department has no role to play as the children were punished by their parents.
