BENGALURU: A 15-year-old boy, who took his brother’s sports bike for a ride, died after hitting a median on GKVK Road near Durga Parameshwari Temple in

Vidyaranyapura

on Sunday evening.

The deceased is Santosh Kumar S, a resident of Vidyaranyapura. He was a class 10 student in a private school and the younger son of realtor Satish

Naidu

.

Naidu and his wife were in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, on Sunday when the incident took place. His elder son, who is studying BE at a private college, was in the hostel. Kumar was alone at home when he took the sports bike, which was bought by Naidu for his elder son.

Police said Kumar was riding the bike towards Sahakarnagar when he met with the accident at 4.30pm. He sustained severe injuries as he was reportedly not wearing a helmet and was rushed to a nearby hospital with the help of an autorickshaw driver.

The hospital informed Yelahanka traffic police about the incident at 6.30pm. Cops learned about the accident spot from the hospital records. “We had no information about the boy. He died at 10.30pm and we were trying to ascertain his identity,” said an officer.

Naidu and his wife, meanwhile, returned to the city at midnight and realised that their son was not at home. They went to Vidyaranyapura police station on Monday morning to file a missing-person complaint when Naidu spotted the sports bike on the premises. Police said they found it abandoned near Durga Parameshwari Temple on Sunday evening and brought it to the police station. They informed the couple about Kumar’s death.

Naidu rushed to the hospital and identified the accident victim as his son.

“We have taken up a case of self-accident and are investigating. We will take action against the parents if there was negligence on their part. Allowing minors to ride or drive motor vehicles is a punishable offence,” said an investigating officer.
