Bengaluru: Junking the Singapore model of development, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said his government’s focus is on ‘developing Bengaluru in the original Bengaluru style’.
After inaugurating Embassy Manyata Flyover that connects Manyata Tech Park with Outer Ring Road, he said: “My idea of Bengaluru is totally different from what is popularly known as the Singapore model.
Bengaluru is a patent and we have to build the city keeping in mind its glorious past and its future. We don’t need to emulate any model in the world, we are the original.”
Bommai’s statement is a deviation from what his predecessors believed. Since chief minister
SM Krishna’s time in the first decade of this century, efforts were being made to develop Bengaluru on the lines of Singapore. “Things have changed. It is now more than Singapore and we have created it. We need a planned growth with all good and modern facilities and infrastructure, ease of travelling, ease of living and ease of transportation. In fact, core Bengaluru is no longer Bengaluru as peripheral Bengaluru has become the real Bengaluru with more villages being added,” Bommai said.
The CM, while not specifying a roadmap for the city’s development, said: “Bengaluru has to grow organically. I need a lot of suggestions.”
