Bangalore: At the fag end of its tenure, the BJP
government proposed party's veteran BB Shivappa's
name for the lone vacancy in the legislative council seat under nomination category. The name was sent and governor HR Bhardwaj
has approved the same on Monday. The vacancy was created after Vijay Sankeshwara's
resignation, who joined KarnatakaJanata
Party (KJP
) in December 2012. Shivappa, a bete noire of his fellow Lingayat and former CM
BS Yeddyurappa, is one among the persons who strengthened the party in the state. He, however, was suspended from BJP after he openly rebelled against Yeddyurappa's style of functioning.
Shivappa, though was the senior most MLA in the BJP, could not make it to the opposition leader's post when BJP was pushed to second place in 1999 assembly elections. Yeddyurappa camp supported
Jagadish Shettar for the post, with Shivappa rebelling leading to his suspension. Though he is not favourite among Shettar and deputy chief minister KS Eshwarappa, senior leader party leader maintain that Shivappa has been nominated recognizing his service in the party and also to make for Yeddyurappa's loss.
CABINET MEET:
Chief minister Jagadish Shettar is scheduled to hold cabinet meeting on Tuesday, third within a week. The hurry in holding cabinet meetings and clear the subjects is due to the facts that Election Commission is expected to announce calendar of events very soon.
