Biffes to screen 180 movies from 50 countries from February 2

BENGALURU: From tributes to the late Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa and Kannada actor Kemparaj Urs to lectures on Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner late V K Murthy and celebrating 60 years of Kannada cinema - the city is all set for the 9th edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival (Biffes) from February 2 to 9.
The festival will see screenings of 180 movies from 50 countries, besides seminars, workshops and master classes for film aspirants.
"The list of films will be announced in the first week of January. The screenings will be held at 11 PVR Cinemas screens in Bengaluru's Orion Mall and four INOX screens in Mysuru," said N Vidyashankar, artistic director, Biffes, on Tuesday.
The films will be selected based on four criteria - overall presentation, visual appeal, reputation of the filmmakers and recommendations. The International Federation of Film Critics Award (FIPRESCI) and Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) Award are also unique to the event this time.
Registration will start from the first week of January at the office of the Karnataka Chalanachithra Academy, Bengaluru, and the Information Department Office, Mysuru. Online facility is also available.
