Bengaluru recorded a UV Index of 13 on Tuesday, categorised as “extreme” under WHO standards, despite the temperature being a moderate 32°C.

Experts warned that any UV Index reading above 8 is considered dangerous and increases risks of sunburn, eye damage and long-term skin cancer.

The combination of rising temperatures and extreme UV exposure could accelerate dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

What are the precautions?

Officials recommend full-sleeved cotton clothing, hats, UV-protective sunglasses and high-SPF sunscreen, while schools and employers may consider limiting midday outdoor exposure.
