BENGALURU: A property dispute between a 66-year-old retired government employee and his son ended in the latter gouging out eyes of the former. The incident was reported on Tuesday afternoon from Shakambarinagar, Banashankari in south Bengaluru.
The injured, Paramesh SS, was shifted to Prabha eye Clinic and Research Centre in Jayanagar. Doctors operating upon Paramesh said the vision of both the eyes is likely to be affected permanently.
The accused, P Chetan, 42 who is a businessman, has been detained by police.
Speaking to TOI, a spokesperson from the hospital said they began operating on his eyes around 3.30pm. “We need at least 3-4 hours to operate on his eyes. But we cannot assure that his vision will come back. Eyeballs have been gouged out and we are trying our best to retrieve them,” the spokesperson said.
Retired as superintendent with government translation department, Paramesh was bereaved a month back after his wife Vasanti died due to illness, relatives said.
“Paramesh has two sons. Chetan and Chandan. Chetan, a bachelor, resides at ground floor while Paramesh lives in first floor,” family members said. Chetan is a wholesale dealer of incense sticks. Younger son Chandan, a private company employee, lives separately, family members said. “He married a girl of his choice in 2002 and moved out of the house as Paramesh and his wife opposed the marriage,” a relative said.
Paramesh had purchased the plot in late 1990s where he built the two floored house, family members said.
Speaking to cops before getting into operation room, Paramesh made statement saying Chetan fought with him for not replying to the legal notice he had sent on Monday.
“The property is in my name. After my wife passed away, Chetan began forcing me to transfer the property into his name since he wanted to take his incense business to a large scale. I told him he cannot force me to transfer it. If I feel like transferring it, I shall do it when time comes. But he was not happy. On Monday, I received a legal notice from him. The notice said he will approach the court if I don’t transfer the property into his name. Today around 11.30am, I went to his house in the ground floor and said I shall not react to such threats. I came back to my house and around 12.30pm, he entered the house, grabbed me from behind and gauged my eyes. I could see one eyeball falling on the bed. I started shouting and he fled. Neighbours and relatives who live nearby rushed to my rescue,” Paramesh said in his statement.
Police have booked Chetan under sections 323 of Indian Penal Code voluntarily causing hurt and 307, attempt to murder.
