Bengaluru: BBMP has informed the high court that the entire basement area has been cleared of shops at the Jayanagar Shopping Complex Block-1 to reserve the space for the parking of vehicles.
BBMP chief commissioner Tushar Girinath has filed an affidavit in this regard in response to a contempt petition, filed by one RR Hiremath. He also tendered an unconditional apology for the unintended disobedience of the order, passed by the court in Feb 2020.
Taking the same on record, a division bench, comprising Chief Justice NV Anjaria and Justice KV Aravind, disposed of the petition.
In the said earlier order passed in a PIL, the then BBMP commissioner had assured the court that about three years were required to complete the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th blocks of the Jayanagar shopping complex, and the basement of block-1 would be reserved for parking only. The businesses in the upper and lower basements of block-1 would be shifted to the newly constructed shopping complex.
After the three-year period lapsed, the contempt petition was filed last year, citing disobedience of the order/assurance by BBMP.
