MANIPAL: Christ College, Bangalore, has won the overall championship in the ‘WGSHA Quest 2003’ held here on November 21 and 22.
Seven leading hotel management colleges and culinary institutes participated in the competition organised by the Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration, Manipal.
Christ College top scored in three out of the seven rounds like Extempore and Essentials, Spirits (cocktail) and Culinaire (chef competition), and secured second place in the other rounds.
Besides the host WGSHA, Manipal, the other participating institutes were IHM Mumbai, IHM Hyderabad, IHM ahemdabad, Rizvi College, Mumbai and Culinary Institute, Hyderabad.
Prof. Tharakan and student coordinators said the competition was a blend of many events that tried to test the participants’ skills in all the hotel operation areas viz., food production, F&B service, front office and housekeeping.
While ‘Extempore and Essentials’ tested the oratory skills and knowledge base of the participants, ‘Fleur Creatif’ brought out their creative acumen. The other major rounds like ‘Spirits’ (classic and innovative cocktails) and ‘Culinaire - the chef competition’, were the rounds which gained the appreciation of judges.
Cultural fest ends: ‘Bremen meets Manipal’, the three-day cultural festival concluded here on Sunday. The MAHE and University of Applied Science, Bremen, Germany had hosted the festival.
The festival witnessed several programmes ranging from cultural performances and film viewing to academic workshops and industry interactions.
Wille Guillmermo, CEO, GE; Jack Weltech Technology Centre, Heinrich Von Wulfen, executive vice-president, Siemens; Shashidhar, director, Mico Bosch; and Rakesh Makhija, MD of SKF Bearings, spoke on the occasion.
Ramdas Pai, president, MAHE, also spoke.
Pai said, “An atmosphere of expectations has been generated among faculty and students and it is our task to smoothen the path of our common vision in professional education and quality research.’’
