Archana claims TT gold
Bengaluru: Archana Kamath of Karnataka cruised to victory in the women's singles final to win the gold medal in table tennis at the National Games in Panaji on Thursday. Archana beat Diya Chitale of Maharashtra 4-1 (11-4, 11-7, 11-6, 7-11, 12-10) in a one-sided match.A turnaround for Archana came in the semifinals where she rallied to oust Lakshita Narang of Delhi 4-3 (7-11, 9-11, 11-8, 13-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9) in a tough encounter.Diya made too many mistakes in the final and that made life easy for the Karnataka paddler. There was a moment in the fourth game when Diya hit the groove. Nina overcame a stiff challenge from state-mate Manavi Varma (27.90 sec) to finish in 27.70 seconds, with her previous record being 28.39.Srihari Nataraj of Karnataka won gold in the 100m backstroke event with a Games record of 55.59s, eclipsing his previous mark of 55.80s set in Rajkot.
