CHIKKABALLAPUR: A day after a college student was killed in a road accident near Chikkaballapur, two more died on Saturday on the same stretch on Bengaluru-Hyderabad highway.
The deceased are Narayanappa, 55, who was working as a security guard at a hotel, and Janardhan, 22, a biker from a nearby village.
More than five cars were damaged in the accident that took place at 7.45am in front of Pranav hotel near Peresandra village.
"When a few hotel customers were alighting from their vehicles, a container truck mowed them down. Narayanappa died on the spot. The truck rammed a bike, killing Janardhan. It damaged five cars at the site before coming to a halt," said a police officer. "The two injured, including a pregnant woman - Manasa from Kadugodi in Bengaluru - have been referred to Hosmat hospital after being treated at Chikkaballapur hospital for leg injuries," said Manjunath, sub-inspector at Peresandra police station.
Ajith, the truck driver, in a bid to avoid hitting a car, drove his vehicle to the extreme right side of the road and lost control, he added. Ajith has been arrested.
A college student from Bengaluru was killed near the same stretch at Vapasandra when she was returning to Bengaluru along with her friends from a picnic to a waterbody. "Chaitra, a commerce graduate student at Seshadripuram college and resident of KR Puram, was returning to the city along with her friend Likhit Gowda. While Chaithra riding pillion on the bike was crushed under a tipper truck, Likhith sustained severe injuries, police said.
