We're Muslims, cops can say anything against us: Najeeb's family
BAREILLY: After reports quoting police said that the browser history of missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmad’s laptop had "revealed he was looking for information on Islamic State ideology, executions and networks before his disappearance", his family in Badaun said that as the police has not been able to trace Najeeb for five months now, the latter had come up with this “baseless” theory.
“We are Muslims and hence people will easily believe police’s theory that Najeeb searched for information on IS. Police are under pressure from the court to find Najeeb and they are now making false claims. They have failed to locate him after so many months and are now desperate to hide their own failure. They should be ashamed about defaming my brother. When the SIT (special investigation team) was probing the matter, top officials had told me that they found Najeeb was a decent boy and that nothing objectionable was found in his laptop,” Mujeeb Ahmad, brother of the missing JNU student told TOI on Tuesday, adding that the family members were
Reports in the media had claimed that browser information on Najeeb’s laptop had revealed he was looking for information on the IS before his argument with ABVP members just before his disappearance. Media reports claimed that he also searched for information on how to join IS and was watching a video of IS leader on the night of October 14, 2016 when he had a scuffle with ABVP leaders. However, Delhi police on Tuesday issued a clarification that no association of Najeeb with IS has come to light during investigation.
“We are not satisfied with police’s inquiry regarding disappearance of Najeeb and cops are only wasting time in the name of a probe. Police have not checked the call details and laptops of the suspects with whom my brother entered into a scuffle before his disappearance. Instead, they are harassing us,” said Mujeeb. He added that if police can trace missing buffaloes and dogs, they can easily find Najeeb, who disappeared from a prominent university of the country.
A native of Vaidotola locality in Badaun, 27-year-old Najeeb was pursuing MSc (biotechnology) at JNU at the time of his disappearance five months ago.
