BAREILLY: Minister of state (Independent charge) for forest and environment Arun Kumar Saxena on Friday sought a report within 24 hours from forest conservator
Javed Akhtar on the cutting down of trees for widening of the Executive Club road in Bareilly.
Suggesting that the trees should have been translocated instead of being cut, Saxena said, "Government's aim is to increase the green cover and work for conservation of the environment,” he said.
TOI had earlier reported about rampant felling of trees for development work in Bareilly city.
Several people and organizations had earlier opposed the move to fell trees. They also alleged that smaller trees were destroyed or damaged due to the careless way of cutting the big trees.
