“After their marriage, Rajesh, an alcoholic, had threatened to kill my daughter if his demand of Rs 50,000 was not fulfilled. On Tuesday night, Rajesh’s neighbour informed me over phone that Preeti was killed by Rajesh, his parents and his two brothers.”
“I immediately informed Dial 100 and reached Chandrapur, along with 60 villagers, only to find the body of my daughter lying on the ground with a leather belt around her neck. By the time police arrived, all the five accused had fled the house,” said Mahendra.
Station house officer (SHO) of Bhojipura police station Manoj Kumar said, “Following the complaint lodged by the deceased’s father, all the five accused have been booked under sections 304B (dowry death) and 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Dowry Act. We are conducting raids to nab the accused.”
