Kheri family wakes up to giant crocodile inside house

SHAHJAHANPUR

: Panic gripped a family at Premnagar village of Dhaurahra area in

Lakhimpur Kheri district

after a giant

mugger crocodile

(Crocodylus palustris) entered inside their house on Sunday morning. The family realised the reptile’s presence only when it attempted to attack a guest. The forest department was immediately informed and the crocodile swiftly rescued after a two-hour operation. It was later released into the Ghaghra river. Premnagar village is adjacent to the Dhaurahra range of the North Kheri forest division, which falls under the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve.

Forest official Kanchan Singh, who was part of the rescue team, said, “The crocodile barged into the house of one Rambachan Singh. It also tried to attack a guest who was present at their house. The family soon informed us and the reptile was rescued.”

Anil Patel, divisional forest officer (DFO), North Kheri division, said, “We have successfully rescued the crocodile. It is a three-year-old reptile, weighing around 100 kg. A medical examination was done before it was released into the river.”
