BAREILLY: A day after Delhi Police allegedly misbehaved with the mother and other relatives of missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmad, 27, on Sunday, his family back home in Badaun said they felt helpless. Najeeb’s younger sister Shifa Nafees, 17, fainted after watching the news on television and she has not been keeping well since then. Najeeb’s younger brother Haseeb Ahmed, who has been forced to stay in Badaun to take care of his ill father and younger sister, said, “If Delhi Police wants, it can trace my brother in two days. However, instead of looking for him, police are harassing my family and those who support us.”

Haseeb, who is pursuing a BTech from a private college in Bareilly said, “It is shameful that Delhi police, which is considered as one of the best in the country, has failed to trace my brother for 23 days now. They have their own ways and can find my brother in two days but they are instead harassing my family.”

“I checked the status on Facebook of JNU students and found that police asked them if they had kidnapped my brother. It is shocking that police has made up their minds that our supporters are the culprits rather than looking for the persons actually responsible for Najeeb’s disappearance. With this biased mindset, police will not be able to deliver justice,” Haseeb added.

The missing student’s family said after they saw TV footage of police action against Najeeb’s mother, they felt helpless. “Shifa fainted after hearing the news and is now suffering from fever. She has been unable to get up from bed since last night as she is extremely worried and angry. Shifa and our father are crying and praying for strength to the family,” said Haseeb. He and Shifa have not attended college and school respectively since Najeeb went missing.

“My mother is a simple housewife and is now fighting a battle to find her son. Though my elder brother, Mujeeb, and other relatives are in Delhi to support her, I am longing to join them after I saw police beating and dragging them away on Sunday. However, I cannot do anything as I have to take care of Shifa and my ailing father,” said Haseeb.

A native of Vaidotola locality in Badaun, 27-year-old Najeeb was pursuing MSc (biotechnology) at JNU. Before making it to JNU, Najeeb did his schooling from Mother
