BAREILLY: Taking advantage of the ongoing drive of the power department to crack down on those using electricity without paying bills, a group of anti-social elements arrived at Jakhira within the Quila police station limits at a time when male members of families were away and harassed women. Some local people rushed to the spot on hearing the cries of the women, and the hooligans fled.
The incident occurred on Friday, and police are investigating.
Four men riding two motorbikes arrived in the area and entered the home of a rickshaw puller at Imli Gali. While the man was away at work, his wife and young daughters were at home at the time.
The rickshaw puller said the men banged on the door, claiming to be officials of the power department, checking for those using electricity illegally.
When the women opened the door to check, the men forced themselves in and made free with the women, who raised an alarm.
The family took the matter to police, and the girls said they could identify two of the men.
SP (city) Rajeev Malhotra said, “We are investigating the matter. Strict action will be taken against the guilty.”
