PILIBHIT: A farmer has been arrested for allegedly beating up a teenager from the neighbourhood, leading to his death, on suspicion of stealing his mobile phone worth around ₹5,000, in Bithaura village in Gajraula. The accused later found the phone at his own home, police said.

Kallu, 26, who allegedly thrashed Kapil Kumar, 17, to death on April 12, was on the run since the boy’s father filed an FIR. He was apprehended by a special police team near Pilibhit Medical College’ on Monday. Upon interrogation, he admitted to the crime, shedding light on the events leading to the tragic demise of the young boy.
Kapil’s father, Shravan Kumar, had accused three individuals of murder in his FIR, alleging a longstanding feud.
However, investigations took a dramatic turn when the police discovered that the missingphone was the true motive of the crime. Recounting the sequence of events to the police, Kallu confessed to abducting Kapil during a wedding procession on the night of April 12. He thrashed him and ultimately strangled him after Kapil kept repeating he had not stolen the phone.
Hours later, Kallu found the missing phone at his own home, he told the police. “He rushed to the field, hoping to find Kapil alive, but he was already dead. Kallu attempted to conceal his crime by dumping the body in a nearby wheat field owned by another farmer,” circle officer Deepak Chaturvedi.
His family and villagers found Kapil’s body at the farm on the evening of April 14.
