BAREILLY: Two days after UP police recovered the mutilated body of a missing man, Shivam Kumar, 22, from an orchard in Bareilly, his friend, 22, was arrested after an encounter with cops for the alleged murder on Saturday. The man told cops that Kumar was his childhood friend, but a few years ago, he had been "sodomised" by him and since then was "plotting revenge".Additional SP (Bareilly) Manush Pareek said, "Based on call detail records (CDRs) and CCTV footage, we had identified that Shivam's friend, a painter, was the killer. When a team tried to arrest him on Saturday, he opened fire at them and in retaliation we also opened fire and he sustained a bullet wound. During questioning, he admitted to killing his friend since he was involved in a forceful sexual relationship with him five years ago and would feel bad about it. This was a meticulously planned murder as the accused had called Shivam for a drink. After Shivam was inebriated, the accused slit his throat with a knife and then stabbed him. We've checked the internet browsing history on his phone and found that he was trying to look for ways to commit the crime."Pareek added: "However, we're investigating the case from all possible angles. As of now, we have the statement of the accused and he could be trying to mislead us.
We'll take his remand custody to carry out further investigation."Shivam, a resident of Meerganj in Bareilly, used to run a dairy farm with his father. He went missing on Wednesday evening. His body was found the next day in an orchard near the railway track. The family had filed a report against an unknown person under the section of murder at Meerganj police station and an FIR was registered.
