BAREILLY: The sample of a local businessman and resident of Bara Bazar – which was sent to Post Graduate Institute (PGI) for advanced tests – has tested positive for swine flu, making him the ninth person to be detected with the disease in the district.
So far, two deaths due to the disease have been reported in the district.Confirming reports of the number of swine flu cases, Dr Abbass said, “Around 39 samples bearing category C symptoms had been sent to PGI for advance tests.
Out of these, nine samples tested positive for swine flu virus.”
He added that the tally is unlikely to increase in the coming days as the weather has changed and it is now comparatively hotter for H1N1 virus to survive.
All patients diagnosed with swine flu have been quarantined in their respective homes and are responding to treatment, said Dr Abbass, adding that no patient has been admitted to the district hospital.
Meanwhile, Dr Mesam Abbas, Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDPS) team in-charge said, “Sample tests reports often arrive late night followed by confirmation mail in the morning. We are yet to receive reports of samples taken on Saturday and Sunday which are likely to arrive on Monday night.”
While health officials are still unwilling to accept the presence of swine flu virus in the district, majority of locals have started wearing masks, to prevent themselves from the possible infection.
Ankit Tandon, a marketing professional said, “I have to travel on a daily basis and meet large number of people. With reports of swine flu, I along with most of my colleagues have stated wearing masks as preventive measures, apart from washing hands on frequent basis.”
Tandon is not the only one, threat of swine flu virus is evident among locals who are taking precautionary measures to keep deadly virus at bay.
