After tea vendor beaten by cop in ICU, SSP meets him over a cup of tea

BAREILLY: In a rare gesture that didn’t go unnoticed, Bareilly

SSP

Jogendra Kumar met tea vendor

Rakesh Maurya

over a cup of tea on Tuesday. Rakesh was brutally roughed up by a policeman recently during an anti-encroachment drive and landed in ICU. The SSP promised to bear all his medical expenses and asked the circle officer to reinstate the tea shop at a different location.
The SSP patiently listened to Maurya over a cup of tea as the latter complained about police atrocities. “Rakesh comes from a poor family and I empathise with him. I will take care of his medical expenses and extend all possible help in his rehabilitation,” Jogendra Kumar said.
Earlier, the traders’ organisation pledged support to Maurya after the SSP requested them to come forward for the “good cause”.
Maurya, a resident of

Pilibhit

, had been running a tea stall at

Satellite

bus stand in the city. During an anti-encroachment drive, he was assaulted by a cop.
