BAREILLY: Three consecutive live shows by Punjabi singer-actress Sunanda Sharma in Uttar Pradesh have landed in controversy, with incidents at private universities in Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Bareilly drawing widespread attention. The first incident took place at Raj Kumar Goel Institute of Technology in Ghaziabad, where a fan suddenly jumped onto the stage during her performance. The individual touched the singer’s feet, leaving her visibly frightened. She screamed and walked off mid-performance. Police immediately detained the man, reportedly a student of the same institute.
Videos of the incident were widely circulated online. Later, Sharma shared a video on her social media saying, "Incident at RKGIT Ghaziabad scared everyone including her due to her loud reaction. She believes the student’s intention was not wrong as he expressed love wrongly and has forgiven him, requesting the management to forgive too."
A day later, unrest took place during her show at Subharti University in Meerut during the annual fest “Spark-2026.” According to police, chaos broke out among students near the stage over seating and proximity. The argument escalated into physical clashes, with several students injured and clothes torn.
The incident had to be halted temporarily as panic spread. SP Rural Abhijeet Kumar said Jani police had taken cognisance of the matter and an investigation was underway. On Sunday night, a third incident occurred at Future University in Bareilly during “Future Fest.” A large crowd of over 10,000 students gathered for the performance, but the situation turned chaotic as fans attempted to breach barricades to get closer to the stage. Police intervened and used mild force to control the crowd. A police personnel, speaking on condition of anonymity, said minimal force was used only to manage the situation.
