Pilibhit: An 11-year-old boy was killed and at least 24 people were injured after a Nepal-bound bus collided with a speeding truck on the Pilibhit-Basti National Highway 730 in Gajraula area of Pilibhit district early on Tuesday.Police said dense fog around 2 am severely reduced visibility at the time of the accident. According to preliminary findings, the truck driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid stray cattle that suddenly appeared on the highway. Following the collision, the truck overturned, while the bus veered off the road and fell into a roadside ditch. The impact caused panic among passengers, many of whom were asleep at the time. Locals and passers-by alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations.SHO Brijveer Singh said, "Police teams reached the spot immediately after receiving information and shifted the injured to a nearby govt hospital, where the minor boy, Subhan, was declared brought dead. The body was handed over to family members after a postmortem examination. Several of the injured sustained fractures and head injuries, though their condition is stable.
No complaint has been received so far."The bus was carrying 47 Nepali citizens, excluding the driver, and was travelling from Nepal to New Delhi, where they were to be engaged in labour work by Delhi-based construction companies. The damaged vehicles were later removed from the highway to restore traffic. Arrangements were made by the bus operator to transport the remaining passengers to their destination, police said.
