Shani Shingnapur: Bhumata Brigade to file contempt petition

Day after Bhumata Brigade activists were prevented from entering into the prohibited platform of Shani Shingnapur temple despite court ruling, group leader Trupti Desai on Sunday said that a contempt petition would be filed against Maharashtra government shortly.
Women activists stopped from entering inner sanctum at Shani temple
Around 500 women activists led by Bhumata Ranragini Brigade president Trupti Desai on Saturday attempted to approach the temple precincts, a day after the Bombay high court ruled that no law prevented women's entry into places of worship. Hundreds of villagers, mostly women, formed human chains and prevented the activists from proceeding for 'darshan' at the temple in the centre of the village. "We are not going to turn around and if need be we will file an FIR against the chief minister and home minister," Trupti Desai said.
AURANGABAD: A day after Bhumata Brigade activists were prevented from entering into the prohibited platform of Shani Shingnapur temple despite the court ruling, group leader Trupti Desai on Sunday said that a contempt petition would be filed against Maharashtra government shortly.
Speaking with ToI, she alleged that it was a call taken by the state government to prevent women from entering into the sanctum sanctorum.
"We hope that the Bombay High Court takes suo moto cognisance of Saturday's matter at Shani Shingnapur and issues notice to the government. If it does not take place, we will move contempt petition soon," Desai said.
Referring to her detention by Ahmednagar police on Saturday, Desai said she has received some injuries on back and forearms as police allegedly pulled and dragged her.
When asked about her plans to visit Trimbkeshwar in Nashik, another temple in question, in the backdrop of court order, Desai said no date has been fixed yet.
Meanwhile, a faction of women activists that has parted off from Desai said Shani Shingnapur was closed topic for them. "We are now focussing on issues faced by poor girls in getting married from areas having drought like situation. Some disadvantaged girls from Beed district have been already identified," said Durga Shukre, one of the activists.
