​Sambhajinagar civic body asks ad agencies to carry out safety audit of structures

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The civic body has directed advertising agencies and hoarding owners to immediately carry out safety audits and secure all hoardings, flex banners and related structures amid the likelihood of pre-monsoon stormy winds, warning that negligence could lead to accidents and liability.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) commissioner Amol Yedage flagged serious risks from poorly maintained displays across the city.

“In many parts of the city, instances have been observed where flex banners on hoardings are torn, structural components have become loose, or advertising materials are left dangling precariously over power lines or buildings. There is a distinct possibility that, due to stormy winds, these materials could suddenly be dislodged and fall upon citizens or vehicles passing along the roads, potentially leading to serious accidents,” he said.

The civic body said agencies must ensure all hoardings are structurally sound and do not endanger public safety. “Any hazardous materials, loose structural components, torn flex banners, or similar items must be promptly removed by agencies. Additionally, necessary repairs and maintenance work should be undertaken to reinforce the structural integrity of the hoardings, thereby preventing the occurrence of any untoward incidents in the future,” Yedage added.

Citing the Advertising Board Control Rules of 2003 and relevant municipal notifications, the civic body reiterated that the responsibility for maintenance lies with the respective agencies. It also made it clear that in case of any accident, the agency concerned would be held liable.

The corporation has urged all advertising agencies, hoarding owners and property owners to accord top priority to public safety and undertake corrective measures without delay.

While official figures were unavailable, around 350 legal hoardings are estimated to be installed within municipal limits.
