Independence-Day spirit grips students and elders

AURANGABAD: The spirit of patriotism was visible in the city a day before Independence Day on Monday.

Line of events have been planned in schools, colleges and government offices among other establishments such as the flag hoisting and related celebrations on Tuesday.

An evening before the Independence day, volunteers in large numbers took part in special rallies organised across the city.

In one of the rallies, organised jointly by the regional centre of the

Yashwantrao Chavan

foundation and Navmaharashtra Yuva Abhiyan, volunteers marched from

Kranti Chowk

to Paithan Gate with a torch in their hand.

“It was the 10th year of our

Mashal

rally that aims to spread the message of patriotism and unity in the society,” an organiser said.

BJP city unit led by president Kishanchand Tanwani also organised a tiranga yatra between the stretch of Kranti chowk and Sansthan Ganpati temple in the evening.

Several school students and their parents said they were excited about the Independence day celebrations.

“I eagerly wait for the I-day celebrations every year. It fills me with the energy to do something big for the nation,” said

Awani Rajhans

, a class IV student.

Renuka Ratnaparkhe, a mother of three-year old, said that it was her son’s first Independence Day in school. “He is in a play group and is excited to take the tri-colour to his play group tomorrow,” she said.

The official celebration of Independence Day will be held in presence of Aurangabad district guardian minister Ramdas Kadam among others at the Divisional Commissionerate at 9 am on Tuesday.

The South Central Railway has announced that various contingents representing railway protection force, civil defence, scouts and guides will participate in the Independence day parade which will be followed by cultural programmes by students of railway schools and colleges.
