Hingoli cops make arrests in 14 MPDA cases in 6 months

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Several hardened criminals and local gang leaders have been arrested by the Hingoli police in the past six months in 14 Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) cases.
The action has been taken by the police, led by superintendent of police (SP) G Sreedhar, to bring a check on active criminal elements especially those posing a direct threat to the law and order situation of the district.
In the latest action, 25-year-old Ajaysingh Hatyarsingh Tak, a resident of Indira Nagar in Kalamnuri, has been arrested under the stringent Act. When contacted, Sreedhar said the MPDA is one of the most effective tools in keeping a check on criminals against whom people are scared of coming forward and lodging a complaint.
While serving as SP of Beed and Akola districts, Sreedhar invoked 33 and 78 MPDA cases, respectively. Authorities said the Tak is a hardened criminal with five serious body and property offences registered against him.
“He was arrested and presented before the court, following which he been remanded to judicial custody. Once arrested under this Act, the accused has to stay behind bars for a minimum of one year without being eligible for bail,” a police officer said.
