CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: The driver and cleaner of a tanker were burnt to death after the vehicle, which was carrying chemical-filled barrels, fell from one of the bridges on the Samruddhi expressway.
The accident took place around 11.30 pm on Friday on the bridge in the vicinity of Fatiyabad, at Golwadi, in the district.
Police said the vehicle was carrying chemical-filled barrels and the tanker took the super expressway from Shirdi in Ahmednagar district and was heading towards Nagpur.
The deceased are Sohel Khan (32), the driver, and cleaner
Naushad Khan (28). Both were from Bhilai Durgud in Chhattisgarh.
Police said while manoeuvring a turn on the bridge, the driver lost control and the truck plunged several feet off the bridge.
In this accident, the driver and cleaner were injured, and could not step out of the mangled truck. The vehicle immediately caught fire. Before the local residents, police or fire brigade personnel could respond to the situation, they were burnt to death. The charred bodies were removed on Saturday morning and taken to a hospital, where the autopsies were performed.
