Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Waluj police on Friday arrested a homeopathy doctor and a nurse for allegedly running an
illegal sex determination unit in the city.
The accused, Satish Rajput, has an FIR registered against him for the same offence with the Jawahar Nagar police station and is currently out on bail. At the time of going to print, the process of registering an FIR in the latest case against the duo was underway at the Waluj police station.
The police, in the presence of a medical officer, also seized a portable sonography machine from Rajput, a resident of TV Centre area of the city.
Inspector Geet Bagwade told TOI that action in this case was taken based on a specific tip-off about illegal
sex determination in the area. According, the police said, a dummy patient was sent to his clinic, where the accused allegedly charged Rs 10,000 for illegally determining the sex of the foetus.
“During preliminary questioning, the accused revealed that several private agents brought prospective ‘clients’ to his clinic. He then would get unwanted female foetuses aborted by giving the woman tablets,” Bagwade said.
