Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Pundalik Nagar police registered an offence against a husband-wife duo from Newasa taluka in Ahilyanagar district for allegedly abusing, assaulting and threatening traffic personnel.
The incident occurred around 4.30 pm on Sunday at a traffic signal near the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court. "The man was riding a bike with his wife as pillion. The bike was stopped by traffic police at the signal. The man objected to this and started arguing with cops," the police said.
Following a heated exchange, the man allegedly began abusing the police officers and slapped one of them, with his wife allegedly aiding him in the act.
"After an altercation with the cops, the accused man lied down on the busy road and tried to disrupt vehicular traffic," the police said.
The police said the accused appeared to be in an inebriated condition, though medical reports are awaited to confirm the drunk-driving charge.
An offence has been registered under BNS section 132 (assaulting or using criminal force against a public servant to deter them from performing their duties), along with other relevant provisions.
