Earlier on Saturday, BJP corporators and woman corporators had launched an agitation against the commissioner.
Sena corporator Raju Shinde said that the pace of the city’s development has come to standstill for the past four-five months as the municipal administration is not executing the projects. “We need a detailed clarification on this from the municipal commissioner. The civic chief should himself give a statement on pending projects,” he said.
BJP corporator Mahesh Malwatkar, independent corporator Sameer Rajurkar, Congress corporator Pramod Rathod and others echoed similar sentiments.
In absence of Mahajan, additional municipal commissioner Ramesh Pawar was occupying the seat. “The commissioner is busy in some other work and has asked me to represent him,” Pawar told the corporators.
Bowing down to the strong protest by corporators, mayor Kala Oza adjourned the meeting and called the commissioner. The meeting resumed after Mahajan arrived in the meeting hall after 30 minutes.
While giving the explanation, Mahajan said that the civic body would carry out select projects in each ward. “We may not take up all the approved projects very soon but we are trying to complete those which are in advanced stages of execution. We will give priority to two to three projects each in all the 99 wards,” he said.
Mahajan also said that the civic body would soon complete most of the white-topping roads.
