Citizens comes together to celebrate yoga day
Aurangabad: Close to 10,000 people including elderly, school children, college students, corporate employees, industry professionals and government officials took part in the 5th International
Aurangabad Centre of Bhartiya Yog Sansthan (New Delhi) saw a mass yoga event from 5.45 am to 7 am at Siddartha Garden where expert trainers demonstrated yoga asanas, pranayama and dhyana to more than 500 people.
Bhartiya Yog Sansthan’s divisional chief Uttam Kalawane said that the event was held to raise awareness about yoga. The trainers explained to the attendees about the benefits of various asanas and meditation during the event which saw good attendance of young and old people.
Patanjali yoga trainer Pratibha Jadhav conducted a yoga session at the Government Medical College and Hospital OPD from 6 am to 7.30 am. The event was organised by department of obstetrics, gynaecology and geriatrics department.
Doctors and medical staff along with dean Kanan Yelikar along with head of department of geriatrics Mangala Borkar had come prepared to take part in the event. Jadhav explained and demonstrated different yogas suitable for different persons and age groups like pregnant women and elderly people.
The Obstetrics and gynaecology (OBGY) department of the hospital held the session with their maternity care initiative under the guidance of HoD Shrinivas Gadappa. The hospital also held a poster exhibition in the OPD hall which gave information in Marathi with illustrations about the steps to practice various asanas and their benefits. Deputy commissioner (divisional commissionerate) Varsha Thakur, who was present as a guest, said that diseases can heal faster with yoga.
Officials and staff of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation practiced yoga in an event held in the premises of their office building. Mayor Nandkumar Ghodele, house leader Vikas Jain, deputy commissioner DP Kulkarni and other staff participated. Patanjali yoga samiti’s Vishala Sharma, Shubhangi Joshi, Sangita Tonde guided them during the session.
A large number of schools and colleges including AMC run schools; private schools and colleges saw students practicing yoga in the morning. Teaching and administrative staff of the institutions also practiced asanas alongside them. At AMC’s Priyadarshini School Surekha Mahajan explained the importance of yoga to children.
Youth and sports directorate, Pune held a mass yoga workout session at Beed. This was also followed in different parts of Marathwada.
