40-member Aurangabad Region Metropolitan Authority elected

Aurangabad: The additional collector and the returning officer for the Aurangabad District Planning Committee on Thursday declared results of the election for 40-member Aurangabad Region Metropolitan Authority that were held on Wednesday.

Interestingly, all the 24 representatives from Aurangabad Zilla Parishad, which falls under the rural segment of the DPDC, were declared elected unopposed for the coveted committee while election to four posts for urban segment - Aurangabad Municipal Corporation - was held on Wednesday. Nine representatives of the civic body were already elected unopposed.

The civic body representatives had decided to field all the 13 candidates unanimously, but at the last minute Shiv Sena decided against the move and fielded one of its candidate Ramdas Gayake from the womens’ category, facilitating the election for the four posts.

However, at the end, four women corporators, who were part of the unanimous decision emerged victorious, said Pramod Rathod, senior BJP leader in the civic body. Those who got elected included Saira Bano Ajmal Khan, Saili Jamadar, Pathan Asma Firdos and Bharti Sonwane.

Nine corporators were already elected unopposed to the coveted body. They include Kailas Gaikwad, Asha Bhalerao, Atmaram Pawar, Zameer Ahmed Qadri, Manisha Lokhande, Shobha Walse, Rahul Sonwane, Appasaheb Hivale and Sachin Khaire.

From small urban area segment - of which there were three seats - two had already been elected unopposed. They include Abdul Sameer Abdul Sattar, the Sillod municipal council chief, and Swati Kolhe. For the third seat election took place in which Sudarshan Agrawal emerged victorious, while defeating Aba Devidas Barkase.

In Aurangabad zilla parishad, which comes under the rural segment of the Aurangabad planning committee, elected all 24 of its representatives unanimously. The zilla parishad is currently controlled by the Shiv Sena.
