2 youths die after coming in contact with live electric wire

Aurangabad: High tension live wire left open by a farmer to prevent wild animals from entering his farm, took a toll on the lives of two teenagers aspiring to join armed forces. The incident took place at Koradgaon village in Vaijapur tehsil — around 70-km from Aurangabad.

The deceased teenagers have been identified as Vishal Sanjay Navgire and Navnath Baburao More, both 17 and resident of the same village. The incident came to light on Tuesday morning, when farmers belonging to gat number of 30 of the village, reached their farms.

Vaijapur police said the youths, who recently cleared their SSC exams, were for past few days been preparing for getting recruited in the armed forces. Accordingly, for clearing the physical fitness test they would run for several kilometres across the village.

Similarly, on Monday evening they went for running and came in contact with the high-tension double-phase live wires, killing them on the spot. It was after the duo did not return home till late, the villagers launched a manhunt for them, but in vain.

On Tuesday morning, some of the farmers spotted the duo and alerted the villagers, following which the power supply to the lives wires was disconnected and the teenagers were rushed to the rural hospital, where they were declared brought dead.

Following the incident, the Aurangabad rural police on Tuesday registered a case of accidental death. Sources said, depending on the findings, the farmer who left the lives wires open may be taken on record as an accused for causing death due to negligence.

Forest department officials maintained that Vaijapur has large tracks of forest land and many wild animals, including deer and wild boars, enter farms in search of food and water. An official told TOI, “It is a common practice for farmers to leave open live wires on the borders of their farm to keep wild animals at bay.”
