AMRITSAR: A lone Pakistani woman managing to enter India without any travel documents, apparently through the Samjhauta Express, has left police and security agencies with a long list of unanswered questions.
Attari station superintendent S K Madan said the Wagah-Attari Samjhauta Express had arrived Attari railway station with 316 passengers on board on Thursday at 1.25pm while the Attari-Delhi Express train left at 8.15pm.
Sources said it was surprising how Fauzia Salman alias Chand Khan remained at the railway station for more than six hours without being detected. "There is a possibility of human error as well as connivance," said a police official adding that if it was a human error, it was an enormous one and those responsible should be dealt strictly especially under present circumstances.
Another possibility, sources said, was that the Pakistani woman could have infiltrated through Indo-Pak international border in Punjab and boarded the Attari-Delhi train from Attari railway station.
As soon as Samjhauta Express enters India from the international border, every passenger is checked by
Border Security Force (BSF) before reaching to customs and immigration officials at Attari international railway station. The multi security agency frisking was introduced after November 2, 2014 after the suicide bombing at Wagah in Pakistan.
Sources didn't rule out the possibility that Fauzia could have been deliberately abandoned by her uncle Rashid as she seemed ?mentally unfit'.
Sources informed that the CCTV footage received from Attari railway station was of very poor quality. "We had initially identified a lady but she was part of some other family," said sources. Security agencies convened an emergency meeting at Attari on Saturday to review the issue.
