BATHINDA: ‘If We Do Not Rise’, a grouping of several woman and human rights groups from across the country, on Sunday organised a poetry webinar dedicated to the farmers’ protest against the three contentious agriculture laws.
The webinar, with the hashtag #poetsinsupportoffarmers, became a stage for noted poets who spoke and recited poems on the theme ‘Agar hum uthe nahi to (ifwe do not rise...)’.
Poets demanded a rollback of the three laws and applauded the farmers for keeping the agitation and called it history in the making.
Octogenarian poet Ashok Vajpeyi, Anshu Malviya, Gagandeep, Gauhar Raza, K Satchidanandan, Meena Kandasamy, Rajesh Joshi, Vimala Morthale and Amrita Johri recited poems. Women rights activist Syeda Hameed, the webinar moderator, said it was a must for all of them to speak up for farmers. Vajpeyi recited the poem ‘Kahan Gaye Devta’.
Poet and documentary filmmaker Gauhar Raza said it was time to add everyone’s voice to that of the farmers.
