BATHINDA: Singer Sidhu Moosewala projected the image of a farmer’s son and was most comfortable driving tractors than travelling in upscale and cushy SUVs. His favourite HMT 5911 tractor figured in his songs and Eicher’s Asha tractor in his local parlance.
He was among the first singers to support to the struggle against three central agri-marketing laws, which the government had to repeal. He went to the protests at Mansa and the agitation on the borders of Delhi. He used to say that being son of a farmer, it was his duty to stand by the farmers in their hour of distress. For mobilising support for the cause of farmers, Moosewala used the symbol of HMT 5911, calling it “an inseparable part of his life”. Even during the Punjab assembly elections, he’d talk about tractors as “every farmer’s first love”.
